Here are the can's, can'ts, yes's, no's, rules and regulations of the yearly cleanse....
The New Years Cleanse Rules and Regulations:
Fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. This is the basic guideline of this Cleanse. Think "whole food". If it had to be modified, it probably doesn't fly for this cleanse.
Duration of cleanse = 1 week

Everything consumed between these Monday mornings must fall under the "can's"
Unsweetened Almond Milk
Fresh and Dried Herbs & Spices
Superfoods (Maca, Cacao, Green Blends, Unsweetened Protein Powder etc.)
Raw Honey may be used ONLY in Tea
Quinoa is the only grain that can be consumed
Fresh Ground Nut Butters (Not those that have been processed)
Canned or frozen vegetables may be used as everyone's resources, budgets and time varies (when using canned goods, look for "No Added Salt" or "Low Sodium")

Grains (Bread, Pasta, Rice, Oats etc.)
Salt of any kind
No Refined Oils (Yes, this means you will have to cook WITHOUT oil)
NO PROCESSED FOODS!
All meals may be raw or cooked, according to your liking!
Ok, now take a deep breath. I promise, it is not as horrible and impossible as it may seem by first glance. I'm a girl who loves meat (the redder the better), has a secret addiction to cheese and loves a good red wine or craft beer, so I can tell you that YOU WILL MAKE IT if you try this out. But here's the truth....
The first day is the hardest. It's really hard. You will probably feel very hungry, tired, angry and probably crappy. This will not go away for the next couple of days. Your body is adjusting to a huge change as well as releasing all sorts of toxins.
THESE FEELINGS WILL PASS!!
By day 4 you will start to feel good. Perhaps, pretty darn good even.
By day 5 you will be more energized, you will feel lighter, happier and in charge.
By day 7 it's just another day in the life. A way healthier, better feeling, lighter life that quite frankly, you could totally keep going with for another week.
The results of the cleanse are truly amazing. You will have trimmed off some of that holiday fat, you will be more energized, feel lighter, more alert and your body may feel much younger. You will be nearly toxin free and you will feel it. Not to mention the will power you have practiced. It is a beautiful thing when a person pushes their mind and body to achieve a goal, to achieve a higher state of health and wellbeing. Practicing such will power will solidify that you can in fact do anything you set your mind to.
I had to practice this will power on a level most won't have to. I worked at Whole Foods Market. I was surrounded by amazing food 24/7...most of which were free samples on the floor or employee free-bees in the break room. It was one of the hardest things to resist, but I did it and it sure felt good. I am in control of me 100%. On top of that I went home every night and made Kevin a meal of his own (he didn't want to do the cleanse) which contained meat, cheese, grains etc... It was hard, but I killed it. Nothing feels better than conquering a goal you set for yourself.
Now, it may seem like you won't have anything to eat except a "boring" salad....without dressing...but there are so many delicious, plant based options out there. I will be documenting this years cleanse for you, so you can see how endless the possibilities are, and how delicious and filling they can be.
Here are some tips that may help you....
No dressing? No problem! Try squeezing a lemon or lime over your salad. Use just your favorite kind of vinegar. Blend up fruit/vegetables with vinegar and seasonings to make your own whole food home made dressing
Addicted to coffee? Try drinking tea in its place. With loose leaf teas, the flavor possibilities are endless.
Have a sweet tooth? Fruit is naturally sweet! Have fruit for dessert.
Though I cut them out for my cleanse, dates are allowed. Dried dates are an amazing "whole food" sweetener. Throw them into your smoothies if they seem too bland without your regular juice or sweetened milk replacer. You can also soak them and blend them to make a paste or "syrup".
Love cheese like I do? Nutritional yeast gives your food a cheesy flavor (that you will definitely miss), it also may add a little salty flavor without the sodium.
I went shopping for the cleanse today. My sister is joining me so I made a menu for the week and shopped away. I spent $180 for 2 people for 3 meals a day (1 lunch per day since I am fed at work). Not bad for a week! It sure does help when you plan out your meals in advance.
